Experience Gaustatoppen like you've never seen it before

The Enlightenment Trail is a unique hiking experience that aims to enlighten the world about the UN global sustainable development goals.

Norad – The Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation, Tinn municipality and The Norwegian Trekking Association have come together to create Norway's first illuminated hiking trail up a mountain.

The event wis part of Norad’s awareness campaign for developmental aid, and a symbol for the work that is needed to reach the UN's 17 sustainable development goals.

Why are we doing this?

The 17 sustainable development goals is the global work plan for eradicating poverty, combating inequality and slow down climate change by 2030.

The goals are about taking care of the needs of those who are alive today without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own.

Norad aims to reach out the messages of these goals to as many Norwegians as possible, about what is being done to reach them and about what remains.

Many people think it is an impossible task to achieve such goals. Some may feel that it is impossible to illuminate Gaustadtoppen in the evening. It’s not. We’ll make it together.

The trail

The Enlightenment Trail is a 4.4 kilometer long track consisting of 17 unique light installations, each representing one of the UN sustainability goals. Together, we will walk towards the top and take in one of the most important messages of our time.

At the peak of the mountain, we will light a «lysvarde», a unique light installation that represents the Global Goals. The renowned singer Sivert Høyem will preform at a private concert for all the trekkers.

Representatives from Norad, Tinn municipality, The Norwegian Trekking Association and the Red Cross will ensure a safe walking experience for both young and old. There will also be surprises and entertainment along the trek. Join us for a memorable trip!
