The Project

The programme started in 2005 and the purpose is to advance the regional integration process in Southern Africa through production and distribution of relevant policy research. The programme has two components, establishment of a network of research institutions with capacity to do research on regional integration and development of the capacity of the secretariat of the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) to distribute the results of the research to relevant target groups.

Interesting Findings

• The network of research institutions has been established;
• Research is being undertaken;
• Distribution of research results has taken place but to a limited extent;
• The weakest link is the distribution of results.
• Recommendations for the future focus on producing research that is relevant, presenting it in a manner that is useful for the target groups, and increasing communication and outreach activities.
