This brochure gives a description of the ""Oil for development"" initiative. The Steering Committee for Oil for Development consists of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (chair) the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Environment. The secretariat is in Norad, and is responsible for coordination and implementation of the initiative.

The Norwegian Government's "Oil for Development" scheme aims at enabling petroleumproducing countries to utilise revenues from their oil and gas resources to reduce poverty and improve the living conditions of their populations.

There is an increasing demand for Norwegian assistance with petroleum sector management, and Norway now cooperates with more than 20 countries in a large variety of areas.
