The impact assessment of Norwegian support to the energy and road sectors in Pemba (Zanzibar) presents the results of the evaluation of a bundle of projects aimed at strengthening the electricity and road transport infrastructures.

The projects have had a substantial positive impact on the welfare of the inhabitants.

The Pemban economy has also greatly benefitted from access to reliable power and roads. In traditional activities such as fishing and carpentry, production processes have been modernised.

The projects have also triggered an unprecedented number of business and job creations. An unintended negative impact was increased traffic accidents.
