Norwegian Energy Cooperation with Bhutan

The Kingdom of Bhutan, located in the Himalayas, is a country with huge water resources. Norway has since the 1980s supported the development of the Bhutanese energy sector. Bhutan has during these decades achieved to provide supply of electricity to 99,5% of its entire population.

The country has since 2007 earned revenues from substantial export of electricity to India. A range of more new hydropower projects are planned and will be constructed in the coming years. As a part of the documentation and reporting of development cooperation results, the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has ordered this summary report about the Norwegian Energy Cooperation with Bhutan.
