Secretary General, Asia Indigenous Peoples Pact (AIPP)

Joan Carling is the Secretary General of the Asia Indigenous Peoples Pact (AIPP) based in Thailand. She has been actively involve in REDD+ in awareness-raising and capacity building of indigenous peoples, policy engagement with governments and REDD+ bodies such as the FCPF, UNREDD Program; and in REDD+ negotiations as well as collaboration with CSOs and other institutions.

Abdon Nababan

Secretary General, AMAN

Abdon Nababan is the Secretary General of AMAN.  He is from Batak tribe of North Sumatra, who with Network for the Defense of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (Jaringan Pembelaan Hak-hak Masyarakat Adat – JAPHAMA), served as secretariat for the founding Congress of the Indigenous Peoples' Alliance of the Archipelago (Aliansi Masyarakat Adat Nusantara – AMAN) now numbering 2,400 member communities. He served two consecutive terms, as Secretary General, elected at the 3rd and 4th Congress of the Indigenous Peoples of the Archipelago (Kongres Masyarakat Adat Nusantara – KMAN). Before leading AMAN, Mr. Nababan worked with civil society activist groups, Forest Watch Indonesia, Telapak, protecting last remaining Indonesia forests and recognizing the rights of indigenous peoples caring for these forests. 

Clemencia Herrera Nemerayema

Indigenous Leader, OPIAC

Clemencia Herrera Nemerayema is native of Pueblo Uitoto Colombia, part of the Amazon. She currently leads the School of Political Education of the Organization of Indigenous Peoples of the Colombian Amazon OPIAC, a project that seeks to strengthen the governance of 56 villages of the Amazon to defend and protect its territory. Project funded by Norad.

Laura George

Amerindian Peoples Association

Laura George an educator by profession but has always been an advocate for justice, and especially the rights of her people.  She is a Programme Assistant at the APA and will soon be a Policy person under the new project funded by NORAD. She has participated in various REDD+ workshops in and out of the country.  She is of the Akawaio people.

Per Fredrik Pharo

Special Adviser, Norwegian Ministry of Climate and Environment

Per F. I. Pharo is Director of the Government of Norway’s International Climate and Forest Initiative, at the Norwegian Ministry of Environment, having served in that function since October 2011. He has been with the initiative as deputy director since its inception in 2008, when it was set up to deliver on Norwegian prime minister Jens Stoltenberg’s Bali promise to spend up to 3 billion Norwegian kroner annually to contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries.
