Moderator: Andy White
Coordinator, Rights and Resources Initiative (RRI)
Andy White is Coordinator of the Rights and Resources Initiative (RRI). He also serves as President of the Rights and Resources Group, the nonprofit coordinating mechanism of the RRI Coalition based in Washington, DC. Prior to co-founding RRI in 2005, Andy served as Senior Director of Programs at Forest Trends and Natural Resource Management Specialist at the World Bank, as well as worked as a consultant to the International Food Policy Institute, Save the Children Federation and the Inter-American Foundation. He has worked extensively in Haiti, Mexico and China. As Coordinator of RRI, he advises policy research, advocacy and engagement in Asia, Latin America and Africa and leads initiatives and networks to advance RRI’s mission. His research and publications have focused on forest tenure and policy, forest industry and trade, as well as the role of forests, communities and institutions in climate change. Andy has a PhD in Forest Economics, a MA in Anthropology from the University of Minnesota, and a BS in Forestry from Humboldt State University.
Amy Duchelle
Scientist, Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR)
Dr. Amy Duchelle is a Scientist at the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) in Indonesia. Prior to moving to Indonesia, she was based in Brazil for many years. She currently leads CIFOR’s work on analyzing the effectiveness, efficiency, equity, and co-benefits of subnational REDD+ initiatives in six countries through the Global Comparative Study on REDD+ (http://www.cifor.org/gcs/modules/redd-subnational-initiatives/).
Isilda Nhantumbo
Senior Researcher, International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED)
Isilda Nhantumbo is a Senior Researcher at the International Institute for Environment and Development in the United Kingdom. Isilda has worked on REDD+ with research on its potential in the miombo forest in Southern Africa and has since then led the development of REDD+ readiness plan for Mozambique; testing REDD+ at subnational level in the Beira Landscape corridor; private sector engagement in REDD+; how to operationalize the zero deforestation pledge in cocoa to chocolate supply chain; use of value chain analysis for understanding the nexus commodities-gender-drivers of deforestation and forest degradation. Her research includes countries such as Nepal, Vietnam, Mozambique, Tanzania, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ghana and Brazil.
Jorge Torres
REDD+ Specialist, Ministry of Environment
Jorge Torres is the advisor in charge of the preparation of Peru REDD financial mechanism at the Ministry of Environment in Peru. He has worked for a decade in forest ecosystem services within non-profit, for-profit and governmental entities including field implementation, national design and international negotiations of REDD architecture. Under his leadership, the first REDD initiatives were certified for voluntary carbon markets and the sub-national governments in Peru incorporated in the GCF Taskforce. He has also represented to Ministry of Environment at international forums, including the UNFCCC COPs.
Ly Thi Minh Hai
Environmentalist
Ly Thi Minh Hai is an environmentalist with an extensive education background, working experience and skills in the field of Natural Resources Management and understanding of traditional and newly developed and emerging “innovative” financing mechanisms for forest in Vietnam including PFES, REDD+…She has been involved in the development of Provincial REDD+ action plan, proposing BDS for REDD+, safeguard in REDD+ in Vietnam.
Mike Korchinsky
Founder and President, Wildlife Works Carbon
Mike Korchinsky is the Founder and President of Wildlife Works Carbon, LLC in Kenya, DRC and USA. Wildlife Works is one of the world’s pioneering REDD+ project development companies, operating in DRC and Kenya at jurisdictional scale. Mike also founded Code REDD in 2012 at a time when confidence in REDD+ was waning, and there was a need to aggressively promote REDD+ as a positive solution to forest conservation, rural community development and climate change mitigation.
