Results and impact review of Namibian / Norwegian co-operation in the fisheries and maritime sectors

This report is a review of the results and impacts of cooperation between Namibia and Norway in the fisheries and maritime sectors. It was carried out by a Review team which visited Namibia in June 2005.
The Review adjudges the results and impacts of the cooperation to have been very successful and there is widespread satisfaction on both the donor and the recipient sides with the results of the cooperation. Namibia is recognised as having one of the best managed fisheries in the world and Norwegian cooperation can take
considerable credit for this. Impact on poverty is not as great as it might have been but this is because of the nature of industrial fisheries and distributional aspects. On the other hand assistance on inland fisheries legislation and research has certainly contributed to poverty reduction in some inland communities.
