Gender action research leads to greater involvement of women in Brazilian REDD+ Social & Environmental Standards initiative
As a result of gender action research conducted by REDD+ SES with Women’s Environmental and Development Organisation (WEDO) in Adre, the Acre Women’s Policy Secretariat started to get work on environmental issues and women have been formally included as a stakeholder group in all subsequent consultations for the SIS. -

Environmental Investigation Agency’s report leads to an American federal investigation of illegal import of timber
In 2013, Environmental Investigation Agency (EIA) launched a report which details the extent and nature of illegal logging in the Russian Far East (RFE). As a result, the American Department of Justice initiated a federal investigation of lumber company. -

Five villages in Cambodia were formally issued with Indigenous Land Titles during 2013
Cambodia’s very first indigenous community land title was issued in 2012. This historic achievement for the community, supported at every stage by Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), opened the door for other villages to receive the same level of protection. In 2013 an additional five villages in the Southern Mondulkiri landscape were formally issued with Indigenous Land Titles. -

Developed reference scenario map of potential areas of Forest Landscape Restoration in Guatemala
Guatemala is developing a National Restoration Strategy which will be supported by a proposed PROBOSQUES Law. This law will potentially leverage public and private sector funding for restoration across a range of land uses including agroforestry systems. -

Civil society influences the revision of Mato Grosso’s state action plan
World Resources Institute and its Brazilian partner, Instituto Centro de Vida (ICV) succeeded in influencing the revision of the Mato Grosso state action plan to reduce deforestation. This demonstrates the value of high quality governance research and sustained engagement with governments to achieve policy outcomes. -

Collective forest land certification granted to 34 Forest Management Groups in Ethiopia
The Dowa Forest Management Group (FMG) in Southern Ethiopia (SNNPRS) is granted legal status to take forest management responsibilities and authorities. The FMG has prepared a medium term management plan and an annual action plan that includes forest enhancement utilization and regulatory activities. -

Acre’s innovative REDD+ program applies the Jurisdictional and Nested REDD+ accounting framework (JNR) to help conserve precious natural capital
In 2012, Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) signed an agreement with Acre’s Institute of Climate Change and Regulation of Environmental Services (IMC) and the Amazon Environmental Research Institute (IPAM – now known as Earth Innovation Institute (EII)) to outline and provide support to Jurisdictional and Nested REDD+ accounting framework pilot activities.
