Zimbabwe - Can anyone solve the crisis?

The crisis in Zimbabwe has escalated since the year 2000. SADC and Zimbabwe's neighbouring states have often been criticised for turning a blind eye to the situation and for helping the regime. In recent months, however, SADC has played a more active role in facilitating a political solution. Where is Zimbabwe heading? Is SADC a part of the problem or the solution for Zimbabwe? Welcome to seminar by Norad/Scanteam.

Ambassador Mussagy Jeichande from Mozambique's Ministry of Foreign Affairs will provide an analysis to the situation in Zimbabwe and SADC's role. Ambassador Jeichande is currently advisor to the Minister in the Mozambican Ministry of Foreign affairs and has since the mid-1970s held a number of senior positions in Mozambique's Foreign Ministry. He has been intimately involved with the evolution of architecture for peace and democratisation in Southern Africa. In 2000-2003 he was the special representative of the UN Secretary General in Angola. Ambassador Jeichande speaks in his personal capacity

Comments by Helge Rønning, university professor at the University of Oslo with broad experience on analysing the political situation in Southern Africa, with an emphasis on Zimbabwe, and Kari Trædal Thorsen, Social Anthropologist and Adviser in Norad, recently employed by the Norwegian Embassy in Zimbabwe.
